Somewhere around the third personal finance blog that told me to max out my 401(k), I gave up. Not on the idea of financial independence, but on finding someone writing about it from where I actually live.

So this is that blog. **eurofire** is about FIRE (financial independence, retire early), saving, investing and the life around money, written from inside the European Union. It is one person's notes, not a media company.

## What you will find here

- **Europe-first thinking.** UCITS ETFs instead of Vanguard admiral shares. Accumulating funds and why they matter for your tax bill. State pensions, and whether to count them. Capital gains rules that change at every border.
- **Numbers, with the working shown.** Savings rates, withdrawal rates, fees, taxes. If a conclusion depends on a spreadsheet, you get the spreadsheet.
- **Life, not just money.** What "enough" means, what to do with the time, and how to talk about any of this with people who think you are odd.

## What you will not find here

No ads. No affiliate links. No "the one ETF you need". No courses. No AI-generated filler. Every word is typed by me, which is also why posts arrive at an irregular pace.

## A note on advice

I am not a financial adviser and this is not financial advice. I write about what I do with my own money and why. Your country, your tax situation and your tolerance for watching a portfolio drop 30% are all different from mine. Read, think, disagree, then do your own research.

## Stay in touch

New posts go out by email to anyone who [subscribes](/newsletter/), there is an [RSS feed](/rss.xml), and every post is available as plain Markdown for the readers who prefer a terminal to a browser. Welcome aboard.
